Choose the lifetime of script state

Separate graph constants, event values, variables, caches, and persistent storage.

Constants and event values

Use an inline input or constant node for a value that stays fixed in the graph. Use a trigger output for the value associated with that event, such as the bot or chat text. An event value is not a durable record of every earlier event.

Bot variables

Variable nodes store and read values associated with a bot. Use them for behavior that needs state across multiple events for that bot. Choose a stable variable name and a documented value type. Initialize the value before the first read, or use a defined fallback.

Check the actual variable nodes and their ports in the node reference. Do not assume that every storage node has the same lifetime or scope.

Caches and persistent storage

The state nodes include cache and persistent-storage operations. A cache suits temporary reuse. Persistent storage suits values that must survive the lifecycle supported by that node. Read the node's implementation link for its scope and storage behavior before relying on restart persistence.

Use unique keys per workflow when state belongs to separate test runs. A reused key can carry a previous run's result into a new experiment.

Verify the required lifetime

  1. Write a known value through the chosen node.
  2. Read it in a second event from the same bot.
  3. Reconnect the bot and read it again.
  4. Restart the backend if the workflow requires restart persistence.
  5. Record which steps preserve the value on your installed version.

Reset or remove test state during cleanup. A script export preserves the graph and its inputs. It does not export every value stored by runtime nodes.
